When family members are faced with caring for and worrying about a relative with a chronic, progressive, irreversible neurological disease such as Alzheimer's, one of the strongest needs they can have is for an understanding and informed group of individuals who are going through the same process. Alzheimer's Disease Family Support Groups provide a variety of benefits to their members:

  • compassionate listening and emotional support by others whose experiences have been similarly devastating:
  • the latest information about medications, research, government programs, etc.
  • practical care techniques which have been learned by other group participants through trial and error and which may never be found in books or articles;
  • firsthand consumer information about the quality of local community resources such as nursing homes, adult day care centers, etc.;
  • access to literature, books, speakers - providing the information necessary to do long - term planning as well as cope with immediate crisis situations.
